Tom Vazquez - Department Chair | Tom Vazquez earned an A.S. in Ornamental Horticulture in 1982 from Butte College. At Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, he earned a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture in 1985 and a M.S. in Agriculture in 1991. He has been teaching Agriculture at West Valley High School since 1993. He is especially interested in plant science, horticulture, and agricultural business. John Fickes | John Fickes attended Shasta College and Chico State University. At these schools, he earned an A.A. in General Education, an A.A. in Electronics Technology, and a B.A. in Industrial Arts. He has been teaching since 1985 and currently teaches a Regional Occupation Program (R.O.P.) Auto Specialties course, two Beginning Automotive classes, and a Drafting class. Ron Hardin | This is Ron Hardin's third year teaching agriculture in the Anderson Union High School District. His current teaching assignment includes three Agriculture Science I classes, Agriculture Biology and Farm Construction. He graduated from C.S.U. Chico and holds a BS Degree in Animal Science, a Single Subject Credential in Agriculture and a Specialist Credential in Agriculture. Some of his extra-curricular activities include: Co-FFA Advisor and Livestock Judging Coach. In his spare time he an avid outdoorsman who enjoys waterfowl and upland game bird hunting. Dennis O'Lea | Dennis O'Lea graduated from California State University, Los Angeles with a B.A. and teaching credential in Industrial Arts. Currently, he is an industrial arts instructor teaching CAD Drafting, Architectural Design and Wood Technologies at West Valley High School. His teaching is enriched by work experience in related professions. Mr. O'Lea served in the U.S. Air Force for four years as a special vehicle repairman. He was a self-employed general building contractor for 15 years, specializing in the design and construction of custom homes in both Los Angeles and Redding. He has also operated his own custom cabinet business and has four years of experience as a Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) with the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA). He designed well over 1,000 kitchens utilizing computer-aided design programs. In addition to being a credentialed teacher, Mr. O'Lea is a Class B General Contractor. Katie Reid | Raised on a cattle and horse ranch in Quincy, California, Katie Reid graduated from CSU Chico with a degree in Ag Education in 2006 and continued on at Chico State to earn a Teaching Credential in 2007. Once out of college, she worked for the California Farm Bureau’s Ag in the Classroom in Sacramento before coming to West Valley High School. Reid teaches agriculture including Ag Biology and Floriculture. When she is not coaching the livestock judging team, being a Co-FFA advisors or getting animals ready for the fair, you can catch her out running with the Cross Country team. Reid has a passion for travel with her mum to far away places like Italy, England, France, and many more. Delaine Smith | A native of the north state, Mrs. Smith, graduated from Shasta High School in 1985 and went on to receive an AA in General Education from Shasta College in 1987. From there, she attended CSU Chico where she received her B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1989 with a minor in Nutrition. After working for a few years, she returned to graduate school at Simpson College where she earned her Secondary Teaching credential in Home Economics in January of 1995.
